Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic The Hedgehog 2, similar to Sonic The Hedgehog (1991) has had numerous ports over the years as well as countless fan projects. The purist approach would be via the original genesis release, which has been ported to various systems and collections over the years. Many of said re-releases have emulation inaccuracies, and it is recommended to use a genesis/mega drive emulator or original hardware to play.

Alternatively there is Sonic 2 Absolute. A mod of the decompilation of the 2013 android port, which has since been ported to various platforms. Including widescreen, the character Knuckles, a menu UI, some bug fixes to the decomp, and other basic QoL.
