Sonic The Hedgehog 2, similar to Sonic The Hedgehog (1991) has had numerous ports over the years as well as countless fan projects. The purist approach to playing Sonic The Hedgehog would be via the original genesis release, which has been ported to various systems and collections over the years. Many of said re-releases have emulation inaccuracies, and it is recommended to use a genesis/mega drive emulator or original hardware to play.

Alternatively there is a decompilation of the 2013 android port, which has since been ported to various platforms. Including backporting of Sonic's new moves. Widescreen, the character Knuckles, and other basic QoL.
